Tong Implement – Grant Tong

Thanks to my brother for getting me started with this post.

Sometime around 1931, Grant Tong left the farm, moved to Findlay, Ohio and started ‘Tong Implement’. He sold Minneapolis Moline tractors and other farm equipment at a location on West Main Cross Street in Findlay.

This picture is during that time frame. It shows Grant along with his son, Winfield and his daughter, Esther.

Winfield (Win) took over the business at some point. It moved to West Sandusky Street, Findlay. Tong Implement closed in 1960 when Win became a machinist in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

That is all I know. Anyone else have any other information?

For some background on Grant Tong – He was born on 22 Aug 1885 in Carey, Ohio to Winfield Scott Tong and Frances Emma Hine. Grant married Adah Bell Savidge on 9 Dec 1907. Together they had the two children mentioned above. When Adah died in 1946, Grant married Lucille Clemens. Grant died two years later.

The story was that he became ill on a hunting trip in Ontario, Canada and died shortly after. Grant is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Ohio with his first wife, Adah.
