Harriet Sarah Stage
My great grandmother was Harriet Sarah Stage.
We don’t know much about Harriet’s early life. She appears in the 1870 census at the age of 19 as a school teacher living with the family of William Hacket (30 yr old) and his wife Rebeca (25 yr old). Remember that name for later.
On 26 Oct 1871, Harriet married Benoni C Mitchell in Wood Co, Ohio. With Benoni, she had five children, including my grandmother Anna Elizabeth Mitchell. Benoni died in 5 Jun 1891 – he was only 42 years old.
On 28 Sep 1892, Harriet married William C Hackett (the same as above). His wife Rebecca Ellen (Dunn) Hackett had died in 1891. Together Harriet and William had another child – Ellen Allie Hackett. William died on 14 May 1899 in Deshler, Henry Co, Ohio.
In the 1900 Census, Harriet was living alone – listed as the head of household. On 26 Sep 1901, she had married for the third time, this time to Henry W Culler in Wyandot Co, Ohio. Henry died in 1906.
Harriet married for the fourth (and final) time on 9 Apr 1909 to George W Baughman in Wyandot Co, Ohio. Harriet died on 6 Jun 1932 and was buried in Zion Bloom Cemetery.
In writing this post, I realize that although I have several sources that say Harriet was buried in Zion Bloom, I do not have a picture of her headstone. I have visited Zion Bloom several times and don’t recall seeing a headstone for her. Possibly, she is buried with her 4th husband, George W Baughman. Maybe I can get back there this summer and try to search for her.
